Mod Podge comes off easily from a glass surface while it’s quite hard to get rid of Mod Podge that holds paper and wood together.

Does Rubbing Alcohol remove Mod Podge?

Yes, Rubbing Alcohol can be used to remove Mod Podge stains from clothes. Rubbing Alcohol is often used to get rid of fresh Decoupage stains.

Rub off as much Mod Podge as you can off the stained cloth. Take a clean cloth and dampen a corner of it in Rubbing Alcohol.

Blot up the Mod Podge layer using this piece of cloth. Use a butter knife to scrape off this Mod Podge layer. You can remove any dried Mod Podge using a Nylon pan scrubber.

Rubbing Alcohol is easily available near you. This fact alone makes the substance of great use in removing Mod Podge stains.

How to Remove Mod Podge from glass?

Getting rid of Mod Podge from glass surfaces is easier than removing it from other surfaces. Below are the instructions to remove Mod Podge from a glass surface.

  • You can remove the dry Mod Podge layer from a glass surface using a razor blade/scraper.
  • If it’s hard to get rid of Mod Podge, spritz some water on the Mod Podge layer. Let the Mod Podge layer soak in some water.
  • Scrape off the Mod Podge layer using a razor blade. You won’t be damaging the glass by doing this.

Remove Mod Podge from wood

One needs to get rid of Mod Podge when they want to re-do old furniture that’s covered in Mod Podge. Along with Mod Podge, scrapbook paper is seen on furniture.

Spritz warm water on the surface of the object. Put a damp cloth that’s dipped in warm water on the surface for 15-20 minutes.

Scrape off the Mod Podge using a scraper. Wipe off the excess Decoupage medium using a clean piece of cloth. Prepare the surface for your needs by scrubbing it with sandpaper.

Another method is to spray some dish soap/liquid soap on the Mod Podge layer. Scrub off the Mod Podge layer using a brush.

If a paper is sealed onto the wood using Mod Podge, it becomes challenging to get rid of the Mod Podge layer.

How to Remove Mod Podge from Metal/Stainless Steel?

Below are the instructions to get rid of Mod Podge from a metal surface.

  • Scrape off the Mod Podge using a scraper/sandpaper. Remove as much Decoupage medium as possible.
  • Apply Petroleum jelly/Vaseline onto the surface. Let the jelly work its way into the Mod Podge layer.
  • Wash off the Petroleum jelly and the Decoupage medium using liquid soap. You’ll see that you got rid of the Decoupage successfully.

Note: You can also use the warm water method to get rid of Mod Podge from a metal surface.

How to Remove Mod Podge from Plastic?

You can follow the aforementioned methods to get rid of Mod Podge from a plastic surface. Below are a few more instructions.

  • Spritz some liquid soap/dishwasher soap onto the Mod Podge layer. Let the Decoupage layer soak in the liquid soap.
  • Scrub off the Mod Podge layer using a scraper/brush. You can also scrape off the Mod Podge using sandpaper.
  • Remove any extra Mod Podge and scrub it well to prepare it for the next Decoupage application.

Note: You can also use the Petroleum jelly method to get rid of Mod Podge from a plastic surface.

How to Remove Dishwasher safe Mod Podge?

Dishwasher safe Mod Podge needs to be removed if you wanna remodel that particular piece. Let’s see how to do it.

  • You can spritz warm water on the Mod Podge stain and let the stain get soggy. Scrub the Decoupage medium after a while. I use this technique often and it works well.
  • You can also use Vaseline to remove Dishwasher safe Mod Podge from an object. Just apply Petroleum jelly on the object, wait for it to soften the Decoupage medium , and scrub it off.
  • Be gentle when scrubbing off the Dishwasher safe Mod Podge. Use plastic brush/scraper for desired results.

How to Remove Mod Podge from walls?

  • Dip a clean cloth in warm water. Hold the wet cloth against the Mod Podge stain/layer on the wall.
  • The Mod Podge layer softens after a while.
  • If it doesn’t soften after a while, saturate the area using a steam cleaner.
  • Scrape the Mod Podge layer using a plastic scraper. You can use the ones you use to scrape ice off cars.

Note: Avoid using a razor blade on walls as it would scrape the paint off.

How to Remove Mod Podge from Leather?

Below are some instructions to get rid of the Mod Podge layer from a leather surface.

  • Spritz some liquid detergent at the Mod Podge layer and let it soak for a while.
  • Scrub off the Mod Podge using a plastic brush. Don’t use a razor blade as it could damage the leather.
  • One can also use Petroleum jelly/Vaseline to get rid of Mod Podge. Scrape off as much Mod Podge as you can.
  • Now apply Petroleum jelly onto the Mod Podge layer. Let it soak the Vaseline. You can remove the rest of the Mod Podge easily.

How to Remove Mod Podge from Photo?

  • Dip a clean cloth in warm water. Place this cloth on the Mod Podge layer.
  • The Mod Podge layer becomes soggy after a while.
  • Scrub off the Mod Podge now using a plastic scrubber or brush.
  • The second way is to apply Vaseline/Petroleum jelly on the Mod Podge layer.
  • After it soaks in enough Vaseline, it’d come off easily if you remove it using liquid detergent soap.

How to Remove Mod Podge from Shoes?

Below are the instructions to get rid of Mod Podge from Shoes.

  • Dip a clean cloth in warm water. Place this cloth over the Mod Podge stain on your shoes.
  • The Mod Podge stain becomes soggy after a while. You can remove Mod Podge easily now.
  • Take a plastic scrub or butter knife and scrape off the Mod Podge layer from the shoes.
  • You can soak the shoes in warm water if you think the stain is strong. One can also use a steamer to make the stain weaker.

How to Remove Mod Podge from Paint Brushes?

If you don’t soak your brush in water immediately, Mod Podge catches onto the bristles. We often forget to soak the brushes. Let’s see how you can remove Mod Podge from brushes.

  • Mix warm water and liquid soap in a bowl. Soak the brushes in this solution for 10 minutes.
  • This should loosen the Mod Podge. Try to remove the Mod Podge. Soak again and try to scrape off Mod Podge once again.
  • If soaking them doesn’t do the trick, try paint thinner. If paint thinner doesn’t work too, just throw the brush away.

Note: You can only remove Mod Podge from soft brushes. I couldn’t remove Mod Podge from foam brushes. Trust me, I’ve tried all the tricks known to man.

How to Remove Mod Podge from Fabric/Cloth?

  • Soak the cloth in hot water for a couple of minutes. The Mod Podge stain should become soggy.
  • Now scrape off the Mod Podge stain using a butter knife. You can also use a plastic scraper to achieve this.
  • You can also add some liquid soap onto the Mod Podge stain to remove it.

How to Remove Mod Podge from Countertop?

  • Spritz some warm water on the Mod Podge stain and wait for a while.
  • After some time you’ll notice that the stain becomes soggy. Now it can be removed easily.
  • Take a plastic scraper and scrape off the Mod Podge from the Doc Band.
  • If it doesn’t get rid of the Mod Podge even then, apply Vaseline into the Mod Podge stain. Let the Decoupage medium absorb the Petroleum jelly well.
  • Scrape the Mod Podge stain after a while using a plastic brush/scraper.
